Indoor WiFi Localization with a Dense Fingerprint Model

چکیده
WiFi-based localization is a popular approach for positioning a WiFi-enabled device in an indoor environment. Most implementations rely on querying fingerprint databases, created by stop and go sampling of WiFi signals at discrete locations used as reference points. In this paper, we propose an approach for rapid creation of a dense WiFi fingerprint database using a human operated ambulatory backpack and a single walkthrough and data collect in an indoor environment. In addition, we present and compare the performance of 4 algorithms for localizing mobile devices based on the collected fingerprints that take advantage of the dense database. We show that it is possible to achieve mean error of 2.8 meters with 90th percentile of 5.0 meters using one of our algorithms. Keywords—indoor localization; WiFi localization; WiFi fingerprints;

Continuous Space Estimation: Increasing WiFi-Based Indoor Localization Resolution without Increasing the Site-Survey Effort †
Although much research has taken place in WiFi indoor localization systems, their accuracy can still be improved. When designing this kind of system, fingerprint-based methods are a common choice. The problem with fingerprint-based methods comes with the need of site surveying the environment, which is effort consuming. In this work, we propose an approach, based on support vector regression, t...
متن کاملWiFi Fingerprint Localization in Open Space
In recent years, WiFi fingerprint-based localization has received much attention due to its deployment practicability. In this work, we investigate the impact of different indoor environmental factors on the performance of WiFi-fingerprinting. We find that, WiFi-fingerprinting highly depends on the deployed indoor environment. In an open space, it is quite challenging to find spatially varying ...
متن کاملThe Death and Rebirth of Privacy-Preserving WiFi Fingerprint Localization with Paillier Encryption
Localization based on premeasured WiFi fingerprints is a popular method for indoor localization where satellite based positioning systems are unavailable. In these systems, privacy of the user’s location is lost because the location is computed by the service provider. In INFOCOM’14, Li et al. presented PriWFL, a WiFi fingerprint localization system based on additively homomorphic Paillier encr...
متن کاملA Robust Crowdsourcing-Based Indoor Localization System
WiFi fingerprinting-based indoor localization has been widely used due to its simplicity and can be implemented on the smartphones. The major drawback of WiFi fingerprinting is that the radio map construction is very labor-intensive and time-consuming. Another drawback of WiFi fingerprinting is the Received Signal Strength (RSS) variance problem, caused by environmental changes and device diver...
متن کاملAdopting the FAB-MAP Algorithm for Indoor Localization with WiFi Fingerprints
Personal indoor localization is usually accomplished by fusing information from various sensors. A common choice is to use the WiFi adapter that provides information about Access Points that can be found in the vicinity. Unfortunately, state-of-the-art approaches to WiFi-based localization often employ very dense maps of the WiFi signal distribution, and require a time-consuming process of para...
